Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, chapitre 173
Ergh, I seriously need to fix my sleeping schedule.

And CLAMP, please stop with the goddamn SFX already and give us text, even if it's short sentences.

Chapitre 173
A wish that won't be defeated

-01- (splash: Sakura)

The falling
shards of a dream---
without knowing that
the morning of awakening will come.

-02-03-

SFX: ka- (T/N: Some kind of loud noise.)

-04-

Tomoyo: No.
Breaking that natural order is exactly what he desires. (T/N: I've decided to translate the word I had previously translated as "logic" as "natural order" after looking at a JP/JP dictionary.)

Tomoyo: Fei Wang Reed's desire.

Tomoyo: That's right.

Tomoyo: That person's desire is something everyone wishes for.

-05-

Tomoyo: However, that is also a natural order that no one can defeat.

Fai: ... It's the same desire as mine, isn't it?

-06-07-

Fai: To bring the deceased back to life.

-08-

Kurogane: ?!

SFX: shuuuuuu (T/N: Fog clearing.)

-09-

Mokona: It's Sakura's feather!!

Seishirou: That was a bit dangerous just now.

SFX: gin (T/N: Glare.)

-10-11-

Shaoran: Give it back!

SFX: paa- (T/N: Light.)

SFX: fon (T/N: Probably some kind of magic activation.)

Shaoran: !!

-12-

SFX: buon (T/N: No idea. Insert appropriate kekkai breaching SFX.)

SFX: ba- (T/N: Probably there for dramatic effect.)

-13-

SFX: paa- (T/N: Light.)

SFX: fuwa (T/N: Gentle movement.)

SFX: ba- (T/N: Probably there for dramatic effect.)

-14-15-

SFX: gu- (T/N: Grab.)

SFX: buku (T/N: Swelling.)

-16-

SFX: buku (T/N: Swelling.)

SFX: meki (T/N: Quickly advancing.)

SFX: meki meki (T/N: Quickly advancing.)
SFX: meki (T/N: Quickly advancing.)

SFX: za- (T/N: Energetic movement.)

-17-

Fai: Shaoran-kun!

SFX: zaaa (T/N:Strong movement, I guess.)

-18-

Shaoran: I'll come back.
With Sakura-hime.

-19-

SFX: zaaaaa (T/N: Strong movement, probably.)

SFX: zan (T/N: Plunging.)

-20-

SFX: shurun (T/N: Snaking movement.)

SFX: hara (T/N: Gently falling.)

SFX: hara hara (T/N: Gently falling.)
Fai: With Sakura-chan...?

Kurogane: Where's the kid!?
SFX: ba- (T/N: Probably there for dramatic effect.)
Tomoyo: He was taken into dreams.

-21-

Fai: ... I see.
Fai: That feather is what changed the virtual space, Outo country, into reality.

Fai: Then, this sacred tree must've become the dream's entrance.

Kurogane: He means to bring back the princess' soul, that is inside a dream?

-22-

Teaser: A nightmare in the dream world?
What draws near the princess,
is it an evil influence, or...!?

Page 9: That cracked me up -so- much. Good old Sei-chan. ♥

Page 17: Fai, thank you! Every instance of Shaoran's name without quotation marks counts. XD

Page 17, continued: Wouldn't Subaru want to be in Shaoran's shoes now...

Page 19: I swear Sakura looks like she's just sitting there calmly watching the whole mess. And Souma is shielding Kendappa. ♥

Page 20: I wonder if Fai is dreading having to face Sakura after everything that happened. And YAY for 小僧 (I don't remember whether this is the first time Kurogane addressed the real Shaoran that way, but the argument that Kurogane doesn't treat him like he treated other Shaoran irks me).

Page 21: Now we know what airs in Dream World TV -- the first season of the CCS anime! XD

Page 22: I'm starting to worry about Watanuki. Is it safe for him and Shaoran to stay in the dream world at the same time for a long period? (Especially if they're seeing the same things.) The conversation they had before was kinda short, but to help Sakura they'll probably have to team up for a while. If I'm correct about Watanuki's being some kind of offshoot of Shaoran, the dream world doesn't sound like a safe place to be keeping company to one's origin.

Next time, in Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle

Foreword: The following spoilers seem to have been posted by someone other than the usual 2ch spoiler person. So far there have been no reactions pointing fake spoilers. Personally, I find Shaoran's line a bit predictable. It's freaking confirmed!!!

Chapitre 174
The path one must believe

Shaoran enters the dream world. Meets Watanuki and Sakura. And the clone appears. By means of that power, Watanuki disappears from the dream world. Shaoran and the clone fight for the feather.

Shaoran: You are myself, therefore... with these hands... I'll make it end.

Can we please have a short fight? Since it's going to be just the same as every other fight with Shaoran in it? I want WTF-ness, not pointless moving around and throwing attacks without thinking.

Yeah. Must they use so many pages for things that would actually happen in less than half a minute? Okay, once or twice wouldn't be a problem, but every damn time? I want plot already.

Yo, Ashura-sama!!

Thank you for this week's translations of TRC!! *bows* Kuro has always been calling the real Syaoran "Kozo" ("Kid") since the Infinity story. Wow, a real classical line said by Sei-chan! XDDD

I was so shocked to see that the feather triggered those strange powers and the tree was like a portal to the dream world. Why do I have a feeling that this was similar to one of the episodes of CCS? ^^;;

HOLY MOKONA!! If I thought that the hand freaked me out in HOLiC, in Tsubasa... has made me so intriguing!! O__x

Now we know what airs in Dream World TV -- the first season of the CCS anime! XD

Really? ^o^ I wonder what channel can I find that - me want to watch it so badly!! *laughs very hard*

Thank you so much for the translations and the funny comments!
I sure needed a good laugh with this! XDDD

Watanuki could be the dream Syaoran had when he was imprisoned. That's why everything began to fall apart after Syaoran has been released and he had to pay in order to prevent Watanuki from disapearing.

No... because he was seeing clone Syaoran through his eye... Or maybe Watanuki through his other eye?

Or maybe Watanuki is his magic (or maybe like what Yuki is for Yue?). Erm sorry if I'm writing something you or someone else already did. I've been too busy to follow your point of view lately ^^'

I've been waiting for the raws on RoR for aaaages!
YAAAAAAAAA! I can't believe they're finally there!!!XXXXXD
Well, now, 3 nice things:

-Sakura and Shaoran are going to see each other again:sweeet, cute moment ahead!
-Sakura's gonna find her body again
-and Kuro and Fye will be alone at last to get together!!!!XDXDXD!!!Loooool!(drooools!XD)
(sorry, just a yaoi fangirl's fantasy, I can't get enough of these two!)

My guess concerning the relationship between Shaoran and Watanuki:
either brothers or Shaoran is Watanuki's father(and that would mean Sakura's his mother!)

But then, why can't he remember their names?
Maybe it's because it's all a dream and it hasn't happened yet?
Would this be just all a big premonition?lol!
The CLAMPs are really taking us in the maze of their twisted imagination!

What will come next?

Just like the anonymous person said earlier, I also think that maybe Watanuki is Shaoran and Sakura's son. Maybe the price Shaoran paid to save Watanuki was erasing Watanuki's precious memories of his parents. This would also explain why Shaoran couldn't tell Watanuki about the price he paid or how they were connected, in the same way Shaoran couldn't tell Sakura that they were childhood friends. Because they wouldn't remember. In a way this is an interesting theory. Because if Watanuki is their son, his existence would symbolize their happy ending, but if Watanuki fades away and "disappears", then that probably means that having a child or being able to be together probably wouldn't happen for Shaoran and Sakura.

However, this theory falters a little, because if Shaoran and Sakura are Watanuki's parents, then why is it that Watanuki is only closely connected to Shaoran and not also Sakura as well?

It could also be the other way around, maybe Watanuki is Shaoran's father, because after all Shaoran does say that he was told by his own father about his connection with Watanuki. But I like the theory the other way.

Though, in the end, I don't really see how they can be related because they really do look totally different. Maybe Watanuki is just a relative of Clow, or even Clow reincarnated.

Also, I still wonder what Sakura will do about real Shaoran versus the clone one. Sakura's most important power seems to come from 'what the body remembers', and maybe that's why she is still attached to the clone Shaoran, even though his heart had been returned to the original Shaoran. I don't really get why she just doesn't fall in love with the original Shaoran, since it was the part of his heart she loved in the clone, and since that part of the clone was returned to the real Shaoran, in a way they've become the same person again. But rather than the 'heart' it seems she more attached to the body of the person. It doesn't really appear like the clone has feelings aside from the ones that were the original Shaoran's. Ah, this is so confusing. I want her to fall for the original Shaoran and that's that. I don't want any unhappy Shaoran's left over at the story's end. And if she goes back with the clone, the real Shaoran, whose already so sad and lonely, will be even more lonely.

Do you think Real Shaoran loves Sakura as much as the other one did? He said something along the lines that their love was different, but I wonder, since that was HIS heart in the clone after all.

Personally, I don't think Watanuki's connection to Shaoran is as simple as a blood relation. I'm of the opinion that Shaoran's price to save Watanuki was "freedom and time". This made me kinda worried that Watanuki would only have the time that Shaoran paid. However, I must agree that Watanuki being tied to Shaoran and Sakura's happy ending would be interesting.

I should really make a theory post sometime, to organize all my wild ideas on Holic and Tsubasa. Anyway, I think Watanuki is an existence that was created by accident about the time Shaoran split his heart, or possibly Shaoran's dream dual who grew too strong due to Shaoran's imprisonment. (My idea of "dream dual" goes like this: your dream dual dreams that ey's you, and you dream you're em.) Maybe Shaoran's split caused his dream dual to achieve existence in a world he wasn't supposed to. The weak point in both theories is a possible causal loop: if Shaoran had never been caught, Watanuki wouldn't have been in as perilous situation, and therefore Shaoran wouldn't have to pay anything in the first place. (The loop could be broken if sabotaging Fei Wang was Shaoran's own will rather than something he did as part of a payment. I'm not sure about this one.)

It's no secret that I'm rooting for the real Shaoran to end up with Sakura, and think that it's going to be almost cheating if the clone, who gained everything because of Shaoran's half-heart and still threw it away as if it were nothing (which I believe is what really pissed off Shaoran back in Tokyo), ends up with Sakura. Besides, I think the best ending for the clone would be to gain an identity of his own, one that isn't Shaoran's, since there probably isn't an extra "Shaoran" soul around to make the clone into a proper "Shaoran".

Sakura and Shaoran both were in confusing situations back when Shaoran was unified, as neither of them knew who the heck "Shaoran" was. My glimmer of hope is the fact that Sakura nearly got herself killed in order to save Shaoran's life, and she decided this back in Tokyo. I think Shaoran's feelings for Sakura are a combination of other Shaoran's feelings (changed by the real Shaoran's extra knowledge -- awareness of things like Fei Wang's plans is a big factor, even if it doesn't change the kind of love Shaoran feels) and whatever feelings Shaoran developed while watching it all through the eye (maybe even before -- Clow-ou's speech to Sakura and real Shaoran is still stuck in my head).

I'm still confused by what Yuko means by Shaoran paying the price of his "freedom and time". Was that something he gave up in exchange for something else? (It didn't really seem that he had much choice in the matter, since his imprisonment was forced, and I don't really see how valuable that locked up time could be or how it could be used, unless it was like you suggested, about how that time would be reserved for Watanuki (which is a possibiltiy).

I don't really like the whole dream inside of a dream thing, so I hope Watanuki won't be anything like that (because things like that confuse me so much...) But I do like your dream dual theory. I just hope that whatever the outcome, Clamp will explain it clearly. A lot of times they lose me on all this dream stuff and I really want to try to understand the story as best I can.

As to Sakura and Shaoran, yeah, I'm rooting for the real one too, and I also believe that the clone will probably develop his own sense of self eventually (but hopefully Sakura won't fall for him then, and will just realize that the part she liked about the clone, was the part that was the real Shaoran...hopefully). I wonder what the real Shaoran thought of Sakura or what he had planned to do before he was kidnapped. It seems he knew of her, and was trying to protect her at that point, but she did not yet know him. Also, I wonder how many years he was locked up. He must have been a child when that happened, since the fake Shaoran was only a child when he first met Sakura.

But yeah, Sakura risking herself to save the real Shaoran really does change my intrepretation with how things were going. And the fact that she was avoiding him, not because she wanted to, but because the dream told her to not get close to him (probably so he wouldn't discover the secret of what she was planning to do), shows that she must have some feeling for him, maybe. I'm looking forward to the next few chapters to see how they will interact now that they will probably make-up and Sakura will no longer have go avoid or ignore the real Shaoran.

Hee hee, I think you should have a theory post. There are so many theories that could be possible for this series. Almost anything can happen in the world that Clamp invented.

Oh, also, I wonder if Watanuki is dead, a reincarnation or maybe a living death or something. Basically, maybe he is a human spirit. (I know Yuko tells him he's a human though in ch144...) But he has ghost and spirits follow him and stuff, can't remember his past, and Shaoran keeps to "not disappear" instead of something like "don't die" which would see more natural. Well, I guess if Watanuki is a human spirit that somehow accidentally crossed into the real world, maybe he can go live in the clone Shaoran's body and give it a soul. (but this theory is most likely way off and I don't really believe it myself...still, you never know with Clamp....)

My idea about Shaoran's using his time and freedom to save Watanuki came from the fact that he really had no time to pay with anything else, as he had been locked up since he was about 8-9 and by no reasonable frame of reference the time between his awakening and Watanuki's accident could be considered "a long time" (the "long time" it took Shaoran to pay).

It's probably wishful thinking of my part, but I want Shaoran to be originally from the Clow-koku world. In that chapter when Seishirou and Shaoran started fighting, I think someone suggested that maybe Shaoran's real father was actually Fujitaka, and now I'm in love with the idea because it'd be pretty awesome for Fujitaka to have raised his son's amnesiac clone with his son's half-heart. Also, it'd explain Clow-ou's "supposed to meet" (Fujitaka would've come to Clow-koku anyway), it'd provide a solid explanation of how Fujitaka knew to name the kid "Shaoran", and it looks a bit more elegant a plan than just randomly dropping a clone in that world.

Sakura is terribly sorry for what she had to do to Shaoran, I wonder if she can even look at him straight in the eye at this point. But I'm secretly hoping that this time around, she'll help Shaoran against the clone, not the opposite.

Not only Shaoran, Yuuko also uses "disappear" instead of "die" when she talks about Watanuki. No exceptions that I remember. It was Doumeki who first "translated" "disappear" into "die", during the arc with the woman in the park. Another thing I find interesting is that in chapter 144, when Yuuko told Watanuki that he is human, she slipped a Shaoran comparison into her speech. To me, that sounded like Watanuki is human because Shaoran is human. And if that's the case, it pretty much cements Watanuki as some sort of "Shaoran spin-off". (I'm trying to unify my "dream dual" theory with the "soul of the clone" theory, though it's probably too forced.)

Pardon me for posting back to back, but....

You know what I just noticed? (maybe someone pointed this out already somewhere, but...) I went back and was looking at the very first chapter, and it had a color pic where Sakura and Shaoran were on two different sides of this horizontal hourglass thing. But they couldn't touch each other because there was a piece of glass in the middle.

That hour glass thing looks just like the world of dreams that Yuko held in her hand, and its the place where Sakura's soul went to in the latest chapters. I wonder if the scene that was prophesied there will finally come to pass soon? (...but wouldn't that be too soon? I don't want the series to end so soon. I thought one of those side characters said that the group wasn't half way through collecting feathers yet...?) But I think they could just keep on going to collect feathers (just like how Inuyasha and Detective Conan keeping on going and going, ect.) and there still seems like a lot can be added on to the series.

But, interestingly enough, in the first chapter, Shaoran is wearing the same clothes that clone Shaoran was, meaning that its really clone Shaoran in the foreshadowing dream. Still, I wonder if this will have any bearing on the next chapters...or not.

No problem about the double-comment. You'd probably have hit LJ's limit anyway. XD

Everyone was like, "WTF?" when the world-of-dreams thing showed up in Holic and Tsubasa. Maybe the hourglass scene isn't THE end, more like a turning point? As for clothes, Sakura is wearing the right ones, but neither Shaoran nor the clone should be wearing the clothes we saw in the prologue. (Shaoran has his Nihon-koku clothes, the clone either has his Tokyo clothes or a new set given by Fei Wang.) Then again, Sakura already messed up the future once, and Shaoran is also trying to do it, so the hourglass scene might be somewhat warped when it comes to pass.

... Or maybe it already did come to pass -- I'm thinking up crazy stuff here. When Sakura had the vision with the hourglass scene, she said, "... Was that... Shaoran...?" Maybe she noticed something out of place in that vision. Like Shaoran being complete (as in, real Shaoran). Or Shaoran being empty (as in, clone). Or that person not being Shaoran at all (as in, Watanuki).
