I'm getting tired of this. You know it's bad when I find myself unable to care about a Shaoran chapter.

Page 1: If you can do this in Mokona-speak, douzo.

Page 8: Dear TRC cast, please be removing the quotation marks from Shaoran's name ASAP. Even if it doesn't have a negative meaning, it's annoying. And I can't imagine his parents registering him as "open quotation mark, Shaoran, close quotation mark". (On second thought, if he -is- Clow's child, then I sorta can.)

Page 12: I think I can safely say that now we know what's up with the "walk on water" covers.

Page 15: That's going straight to my list of worst scene cuts ever. >< C'mon, CLAMP, this isn't Holic! (On a side note, gimme back my Holic, goddammit!)

Page 21: I have this weird impression that the teaser isn't talking about the clone.

Chapitre 173
Undefeated wish

Fei Wang's desire is to resurrect the deceased.

Seishirou defends against Shaoran's Raitei Shourai with the power of the feather. Enraged, Shaoran reaches out to the feather. Just before he touches it, he is entangled by a black tentacle. He is pulled into the dream world by the feather that made Outo country real.

The hand that extends behind Sakura. What in the world...!?

Keh, as if we didn't already know that Fei Wang wanted that. I smell a biiig explanation segment, I just hope it's either Tomoyo or Yuuko speaking (yes, even Yuuko is preferrable to the man himself). And YAY, let the WTF-ness begin!

Now, really, Shaoran, that's exactly what I was talking about when I complained about meaningless moving around instead of thinking things out.

And on page 21... It's not only you at all. I too think about Holic when I see that "two selves". And by the way, love live the return of Holic after more than two months! *snorts*

Most of the info was from the Fai/Tomoyo convo, which was focused on Ashura-ou and only said what I already knew deep down. Though I'll admit that it was nice finally getting an explanation of what the "walk on water" imagery means.

What I find bad is I can't get excited about a chapter with Fuuma and Seishirou in it. I still love seeing them but I wish CLAMP would quit stalling. I want resolution to the vampire/hunter subplot and I hate it how things keep on getting dragged out.

Yeah, CLAMP is beating around the bush too much. I still blame "(self?) imposed conformity to the shounen standards" for this awful pacing. And I still can't figure out the visual clutter in the action scenes.

Speaking of the teaser, who is his beloved? Sakura? Unless its meant to run in with the next statement which would imply that whoever is the 2nd self is also his beloved. Yeah I'm feeding my fangirly self. Rawr!

Hey we get HOLiC next week! I hope there be no more delays and I hope for a very good chapter! Aren't we long overdue for that Haruka/Doumeki splash page CLAMP promised?

Quite honestly, the first thing I thought when I saw the chapter title in the spoilers was, "What, only -now-? There has been no logic to this thing for a long time already."

That teaser is strange. I'd say it's not supposed to run in, but there's a missing に there that makes me not so sure. T_T

I can barely believe that Holic is going to be back. It missed it so much. And yeah, here's to hoping CLAMP won't pull off this sort of thing again.

At first I honestly thought that was a little joke of yours. TRC doesn't make sense sometimes but its more action oriented after all. Guess I'm just one of the few who prefer HOLiC's pacing. XD

Hmm, we're still sure the two of oneself isn't the clone. Question is who R!Syaoran considers his beloved to be.

I believe HOLiC will be back. I don't believe CLAMP won't pull this again.

LOL. That drives me absolutely crazy too(I get bothered by weird things). Okay, so maybe those 「　」marks don't always have the same negative connotation that quotation marks have in English, but still, give the poor guy a break. We're not that stupid; we can remember perfectly well he's not the same Syaoran as the other one without those marks, and I imagine he can too. If my friends treated me that way, I'd smack 'em. (I wonder, do they hold their fingers up in the air and make clicking motions whenever they call him by name?)

I always like your translations, but I wanted to let you know that I think you did an especially good job this chapter-- very fluid and natural, and clear too. The section where Tomoyo is explaining Ashura's back-story is especially clear and a pleasure to read (explication always seems especially difficult to translate to me, I guess because the pictures don't give as many clues as in action sequences).

I actually liked this chapter. The fighting bored me, but it always does; I generally just skip right past it. I liked that there was some actual intellectual processing of his relationship with Ashura by Fai. It bugged me that he went right from being the Prince of Angst to seeming like he was perfectly okay with everything. I'm happy that he's all better and stuff, but it just seemed way too easy. CLAMP usually has more subtlety than that.

Explanations tend to have longer sentences, which can be difficult to parse sometimes (e.g. if it's Fei Wang talking XD), but that problem aside, they have the advantage of being more abstract/non-practical/whatever, which is a language domain where I'm strong in English. More concrete stuff is gramatically easier to understand in Japanese (provided that there aren't weird constructs that I don't know), but when I have to write it in English it ends up awkward.

And I agree, Fai's recovery was kinda abrupt. Okay, maybe the Celes fiasco shocked him into temporary non-angst, but in that case it can't last forever.

Poor CLAMP...I think it's funny that many of us girls find the fighting in tsubasa somewhat annoying, and at the same time, well, fights are the most interesting part of the story for a lot of the boys who read it (i know a couple of them and that's what they say). So one part of the fanbase is gonna be complaining perpetually! :p

I don't mind the fights much, but i definitely prefer dialogue and complicated plot and relationships.

Not even the best mangakas can please ALL their fans, all the time, right? XD

This week, i loved the Fai and Tomoyo talk, so i'm a happy otaku right now.

About the fighting scenes, to me it has nothing to do with whether I'm female or male. The problem is in the execution. The fights in TRC drag too much (of course, the release schedule doesn't help any), and they're too much pointless moving around where there could be clever tricks, insights, that kind of stuff. It'd also help if we were privy to what the fighters are thinking, without relying solely on visuals.

I actually like seinen -way- better than both shoujo and shounen. CLAMP is doing a good job keeping Holic in genre, but I don't feel the same way about TRC -- it's almost like it's saying, "Look at me, I'm a shounen manga!" even though it's missing an important relationship depicted in traditional shounen.

Heh, you're right. There's so much more that could be done with the Tsubasa manga... seeing that each of the characters have tons of potential and all.

Seinen is one of my favourite genres too, since i'm in that age range and i can no longer identify too much with the problems presented in shoujo or shounen (high school has been long gone from my life hehehe XD )
But for some reason i can still enjoy cute shounen like +Anima (the sweetest thing ever) and shoujo like Fruits Basket (besides, Fruits has characters that are still my age, thank goodness!!!)

I've been a CLAMP addict since they released RG Veda eons ago, so i kinda forgive them most things i consider faulty in their works. They made my dream of seeing some characters long dead or with a dreadful future in their original stories have better fates come true, so i enjoy TRC a lot.

But i can definitely see and understand your point. It does lack some of the basic shounen elements.

I think it would've been better if they had published it in a shoujo magazine, since it begs for a shoujo-ish approach.

Oh, and I MISS MY HOLIC FIX!!!!! I'm having withdrawal symptoms here. XDDDD
