I don't think I've ever stolen this many lines from past translations. XD

I'm pretty sure the one Fei Wang was talking to the whole time was Yuui, does anyone have a different opinion, and why?

Unless Yuui is way crazier than we thought and lost his sense of self, I'd say this is deliberate, calculated, and furthermore it's the reason why we readers "might not like Fai anymore after knowing his past".

For the sake of argument, here's a post I made in my translation thread on MangaHelpers outlining my thoughts on who exactly Fei Wong Reed was talking to:

I'm aware that Yuui is at the bottom and Fai is at the top. But with the interesting artwork, I don't think it's 100% clear that the twin Fei Wong is speaking to is the one at the bottom - in either of the two chapters that depict the scene, especially this one. I can't deny that it looks rather like he's talking to the one at the bottom - the "camerawork" in the original flashback makes that almost certain, and the snow falling in both suggests that the encounter happens outside as well, but there are still so many things pointing to the twin Fei Wong is talking to being Fai that I can't decide properly.

The twin Fei Wong is talking to says a hanging "Dareka ni..." which is mirroring the "Dareka ni..." that Fai-in-the-tower was repeating earlier (which I translated as "tell someone", since it actually had context in that instance). [EDIT: Actually, on reflection, since the repetition here seems quite important, I'm changing my translation so that all instances of it read simply "someone". We now have three instances of the word "someone" in Fai's little speech in my translation, not including the one in the second part of the flashback. There were only two in the Japanese, but there need to be three in the translation or the repetition isn't as obvious.] Then there's the fact that he says "Get Yuui out of here" ("Yuui wo dashite"), which makes little sense if he is Yuui. And there's the fact that the flashback cuts out from past-Fai resolving to get Yuui out of there, to Ashura telling current-Fai that he chose back then, to the scene where the twin tells Fei Wong Reed his choice - clearly implying that all three are the same person.

After looking carefully at both chapters, I'm very hesitant to postulate that the twin Fei Wong Reed is talking to is actually in the tower - whilst the artwork is never 100% clear that the whole thing takes place at the bottom of the tower, it's pretty damn close. And that physical location is by far the biggest thing supporting the twin in that scene being Yuui - everything else points towards him being Fai. But physical location is in this instance something that's very difficult to ignore. The fact that the child at the bottom is repeating Fai's "dareka ni" can't very easily be explained away by saying that "Yuui thinks he is Fai" or "Yuui is being deliberate with his wording" like the fact that he used his own name - as far as I'm aware, Yuui wasn't even party to Fai's little rant to himself. So assuming the twin at the bottom is Yuui, either the echoing of Fai's words is a coincidence, or there's some kind of actual connection between the twins' consciousnesses going on here.

Of course, I could be reading too much into this and the "dareka ni" could just be something completely different, not intended to echo Fai's earlier words at all. But that seems a little unlikely to me.

Well, although I think children of royal heritage would be educated enough to use a real first-person pronoun, there's always the chance that these two aren't. I don't recall seeing them using first-person pronouns, so... There's also the other possibilities you mentioned later, of course.

Hmmm, the impression I had when I saw the scene cut was that "someone to help only Yuui" linked to Ashura-ou.

So assuming the twin at the bottom is Yuui, either the echoing of Fai's words is a coincidence, or there's some kind of actual connection between the twins' consciousnesses going on here.
I don't think it's a coincidence, though it wouldn't be impossible -- if the repetition had been of something more complex, yes, it'd completely exclude the possibility of a coincidence, but "dareka ni" isn't all that weird a segment in my opinion. I think it's more likely they both simply had the same idea -- to leave the other twin in someone's care -- because they love each other.

I'm not sure yet that our Fai is Fai. Things don't add up on either side. The, "Get Yuui out," line seems to go against our Fai being Yuui, but if our Fai is Fai, then where did Yuui fall from? Did Fei Wang, like, teleport-swap them, and then threw Yuui from the top of the tower? It doesn't make much sense to me.

Someone brought up this argument somewhere -- there's also the fact that the dead twin's fingers were clean. We know that Yuui's fingers were not, they were all bloody from trying to climb to the edge of the valley.

Clamp are playing with our minds DX

Looking at this chapter's images, I was under the impression that Yuui went crazy and just stopped moving/interacting with Fai after the emperor killed himself. He didn't seem able to hold that conversation with FWR.
On the other hand, if we assume a lot of time has passed (their hair's grown a lot longer), maybe part of the tower's ceiling has collapsed and Fai's laying in the snow too, so that he seems to be outside...

In short: I still believe Fai's made the decision but I'm not so sure anymore -_-;;

Btw, thank you for the translation ^_^

I'm still of the opinion that the identity of "Fai" is our Fai's first lie. The point where the floor meets the wall inside the tower shows very clearly that the inside of the tower has a small radius. Where the conversation takes place, there's no indication of a small radius. Besides, the passage of time is after pages 8-9, and after that we still have Fai practically snow-less and Yuui lying on the snow. And Yuui might have regained his ability to hold a conversation in the meantime. ^_^

	Poor Yuui... Maybe Fei Wang Reed talked to him because he was more "traumatizable"? You know, like "the higher you are, the worse the fall"? Fai was all depressed and wanting to die, but Yuui was more like determined and pissed off. I don't know it kinda doesn't suit either of them to just choose themselves.
It's unlikely, but it's possible that on the last page it was Fai instead of Yuui.
After all in page 10 you can see that Fai was also surrounded by snow. O.o

But you know even if our!Fai really did choose himself, I don't think we would stop liking him. Sure, it would be selfish, but he clearly neither wanted nor expected his twin to die.

Something -messy- happened between those two. If we go by flashbacks, it seems like our Fai has the memories of both. They -are- twins, though, and this kind of thing happens between fictional twins sometimes.

I think our Fai is Yuui, but I'll stay in the "I think" land until further explanations. You never know when CLAMP will pull off a "they swapped bodies in the moment of Fai's death" thing. XD

My brain is hurting me...CLAMP is confusing the mess out of me...though I was reading your comment to refreshisama andI have an idea...you said that Fai somehow has both Yuui and his own memories...CLAMP has done it before in a slightly different way with Chi and Freya. It was in a different way, but it was still a similar situation.

Thanks for the translation, I'll have to come back and reread the chapter when it's scanlated and then I'll be bale to make a better comment on it.
