Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, chapitre 154
You can find raws over at [info]eldarianne's. [info]su_chan zipped the images and uploaded them to MediaFire, but at least to me it's been acting up lately, so here's a Sendspace version.

Chapitre 154
The magician's return

-01- (splash: Shaoran)

For the sake of the memories
and the body of the tomorrow you,
now, for one moment,
I become a gust of wind.

-02-03-

Label: Celes country

-04-

Shaoran: That castle is... (T/N: This is just a generic start of sentence. It could be a question, a silly comment, whatever.)

Fai: Where I was, Castle Ruval. (T/N: Not sure how to romanize ルヴァル, does anyone recognize the name?)

Mokona: It's no good!
I don't know where Sakura's body is!

Shaoran: Mokona, what you've been detecting was the presence of the princess' feathers.
Shaoran: The feathers are the princess' memories, her heart,
so you probably don't know about the body that is without a soul.

Fai: Sakura-chan is over there.

-05-

Kurogane: How can you tell?

Fai: Although her body and soul are separated, Sakura-chan is still alive.
And
Fai: the presence of living things comes from nowhere other than that castle.

Mokona: What about the other people in this country?

-06-

Fai: ......

Mokona: Hmmm, how should we go to the castle?
Climbing those stairs?

Fai: It's not like they're really there.

Kurogane: An illusion?

-07-

Shaoran: Fuuka Shourai! (T/N: "Invocation of the wind petals".)

-08-

Mokona: Shaoran can also use this kind of magic, right?

-10-

Mokona: They look like... the clothes Fai is wearing.
Kurogane: The people of this castle?

Shaoran: ......
Fai: That's right.

-11-

Kurogane: What's up?

Mokona: Does your head hurt?

Shaoran: ... No.

Mokona: You really okay?
Shaoran: I'm all right.
We must search for the princess... (T/N: This sentence probably uses the "-nai to ikenai/naranai" form, and was cut after the "to". There's a small chance that Shaoran was going to say something else, like a negative consequence of not searching for Sakura's body.)

-12-

Mokona: ......

Kurogane: Can you tell where in the castle is the princess' body?

Fai: ... Yes.

-13-

Fai: ......

-15-

Ashura-ou: Welcome back,

Ashura-ou: Fai.

-16-

Fai: ... I thought I'd be able to not return,
if possible.

Fai: Ashura-ou.

-17-

Ashura-ou: Even though you promised
Ashura-ou: that you'd grant my wish.

Ashura-ou: I've been waiting for you.

Ashura-ou: This child
Ashura-ou: has also been waiting

-18-

Ashura-ou: for you, all the time.

Teaser: Those young eyes,
what kind of memories
do they project on the king, on the magician?

There might be page numbering/ordering errors here, please warn me ASAP if you see one. Same goes for any lines I might have missed.

Okay, this time I think I made it pretty clear that someone saying "<something> wa" does not mean that the person knows what the <something> is. It was stupid of me not to put this kind of note in previous translations.

Page 4: All right, Shaoran, you kinda lost me there. Heart, or soul, or do you know that they can't be trivially separated? And if you know that, what the heck were you thinking back in Acid Tokyo? And why does it creep me out to see Fai talk about Sakura's body as "Sakura-chan"?

Page 15: This is a historical moment! Ashura-ou, alive, talking, not in a flashback! YAY!!!

Ohh... Thanks a lot for translation *-*
"Ashura-ou, alive, talking, not in a flashback!" I agree this is a historical event!

You're welcome!

Now Clow needs a historical event like that, but unfortunately I think -that- one will stay forever in wish-land.

All versions of Clow (the person), actually. Unless I missed something and we did see him outside of a flashback.

It'd be nice to get another Clow-koku interlude. The only one was that before Outo, and after that we never heard of it again. But I wonder how long has it actually been in Clow-koku since Sakura left, because all other worlds seem to be much faster. Maybe it's been long enough for, say, Yukito to try to leave the room and Touya stop him? XD

By means of some weird stuff that happens between fictional twins. For example, the guy in my userpic (the one on the left) convinced his twin sister that her memories of a certain event were actually his and vice-versa. Subaru also kinda knew about Hokuto's death, didn't he?

Its almost like a typical horror plot. You go into a house that has bodies scattered outside. Inside, a lone person who smiles like your mother is waiting to meet then pulls out a kid that looks like a scarecrow. I'd be running for the hills by then. >_>

Why is 'Foy' alive?
What was Ashura-ou's wish?
We have TRC next week right?

BTW I uploaded some doujins at the Tsubasa forums. There are four different links for each and none of the are MegaUpload or Sendspace. So... Please? :3

Hey, that Celes horror story looks great! Someone should write a crackfic about it. ^.^

Ashura-ou's wish? This being CLAMP, I'd say something like he wishes for Fai to kill him. XD

As far as I know, next week is both TRC and Holic.

I'm a bit busy this week, I'll look at the doujins when I have more free time, 'kay?

I'll take a shot at it if I can. Time to load up on crack~ (not the drugs)

If thats true that'd be so, umm, cliche. And if CLAMP expects us to think like that then you can bet they're going to do something else. Like when we thought Lantis really did have the power of premonitions.

Updates say that there will be no HOLiC next week. DX

Thanks in advance! X3

Thank you!!! ^____________^ but none is KuroFay ;_;

I have a question.... is about the chapter, Fay's line:

Are ha hontouni aru wake janai nda

none of us agreed on it XD

I initially wrote: 'there is no reason for that' but reading yours and for the sake of Kuro's answer (are/is an ilusion?) I changed it to 'those are not there' ... and now Inarikami has written 'That wouldn't be possible.' ein???? O_O;

wake is 'reason, conclusion'... do you know how this one must be used/tranlated in a sentence???

(Reply to this) (Parent)(Thread)

[info]ashura_sama
2007-05-31 11:38 am UTC (link)
I usually translate the "wake de wa nai" (and variations) group as "it's not like". I consider "wake" in this case to mean "situation, circumstance", though the JGram entry explains it in terms of "(derived) conclusion" and it's talking about the same thing.

I broke the line like this:
[[are wa hontou ni aru] wake ja nain da] ---> the inner sentence says it's really there, and then the outer sentence negates it

Inarikami might have missed the "aru" in the middle of the line, or maybe it's a huuuge adaptation.

[info]su_chan
2007-05-31 01:37 pm UTC (link)
so the final one is 'it is not like they are there'.... JWPce also lists 'wakedehanai' as an individual entry... I just looked for 'wake' :-/ Thank you!!!! ^_____________^ I wanna be as good as you someday!!! (and I must spend more time at www.jgram.org *nods* )

We must search for the princess... (T/N: This sentence probably uses the "-nai to ikenai/naranai" form, and was cut after the "to". There's a small chance that Shaoran was going to say something else, like a negative consequence of not searching for Sakura's body.)

I have another question, well more like a doubt... here you said it maybe was '-nai to ikenai/naranai'.... as far as I know and I've been able to find, that structure is '-nakereba naranai/ikenai' using this other conditional on a negative verb... my question is, is that structure also able to be made with the 'to' conditional??? '-nai to ikenai' and has the same meaning => 'must/need to do'???? (sorry I've searched before asking, but I can't find it, only the other structure ;_;)

I did that one: 'if we don't search for Sakura...' considering the 'to' only as a conditional... but more or less has the same meaning... 'we must search ' or something bad will happen ...

umm... I think I messed the qtn a bit XDDDDD

Thank you!

(Reply to this) (Parent)(Thread)

[info]ashura_sama
2007-06-01 03:04 pm UTC (link)
The short answer is yes, it can be used just like "nakereba ikenai/naranai". I'm pretty sure there must be a slight difference due to the strong temporal meaning of "to", but when followed by "ikenai/naranai", they become the same. "-nai to naranai" seems to be rare (I read about it somewhere, but haven't seen it used), with "-nai to ikenai" being way more common. I've also heard "-nai to dame" which is essentially the same thing, but I prefer a more literal translation for that one.

I only translated Shaoran's line the way I did because his intention was pretty obvious. I wouldn't recommend doing the same with Clow's infamous last words to Yuuko. XD

On a last note, beware of "to ikenai" in CLAMP, they've been known to use it with "ikenai" as the negative potential of "iku" (to go) as well as with the traditional meaning.

Ah, I wonder what's up with Shaoran, too. He's obviously sensing something. Maybe he has some power similar to Watanuki's, which make him physically ill in the presence of "bad energies"?

I thought maybe ルヴァル would be something from a CLAMP manga I haven't read, but no one said anything so maybe it's not.

similar power to watanuki's? yuuko said watanuki inherited his abilities from his family, and now syaoran's acting like he has similar powers as watanuki...and the last chapter of holic just reminded ppl that watanuki's surname is sakura and clone syaoran's birthday...O_O

i've always suspected that watanuki might be connect to R!syaoran and sakura in a way that makes them somehow very important to his existence, like he might be their kid or descendent or something, but this is starting to get creepy.

Yay new chapter! But it's so creepy! I've been wanting to get to Celes for a while..but it's starteling to see the last page. I'm wondering if the little boy is even real. The stares to the castle are an illusion, so it is possible that the only one there is Ashura-ou.

>.> If it's the little boy is one of the little boys in the tower then it's very off because clearly Fai grew up and he's much older than he appeared. This little boy looks the same age as when they were in the tower. Maybe it's a piece of Fai that he left behind...*sigh* I'm confusing myself. Sorry for ranting. I appreciate the translation very much, thank you. *bow*

That's an interesting thought. As for the age thing, we know it's possible in CLAMP-verse to magically stop someone from growing up. Eriol did it, and it also happened to Shaoran (though in his case it was probably forced).

Though it's possible that the brat is really just an illusion. I mean, where has he been hiding all this time?

Thaaank you so much for the transelation!<333 OMG this is so much love! This chapitre is simply awesome! And yes, Fay talking about Sakura's body as Sakura-chan is kind of scary. What also bothers me is that the dead bodie are still there if we assume they are the same as when Fay left. But then again it is very cold in Celes o.O But then again there are a lot of things bothering me with this chapitre. What did Fay promise? What does Foy doing there, and what is Fay's second curse -.-; CLAMP... why?

As usual, CLAMP feeds us with one answer and ten thousand questions.

I wonder what kind of arc this will be. Right now it looks like it's just going to be one very long talk. Also, is Sakura coming back to hear about all the messy details of Fai's past? It'll be very headwall-inducing if she's "spared" from this one.

Hmmm, I wonder if the Holic break next week means we'll be seeing the fated meeting with the clone within 1-2 chapters?

I think so too. It looks like a talking arc. But then again the whole manga (or at least for me XD) have been building up to this arc and if they just have a chat and go on, I will be dissapointed. But then again this way we might get a lot of answers, fast ^^ I am so eager to know everything about Fay ^^

Wow, what a creepy chapter!! That last page made me gasp O_O That was SO scary. Poor Fai~~!!
I'm concerned about Syaoran...At first I thought he was feeling the Clone somewhere, but after reading what everyone's been saying, I think it's quite likely that it's because of his apparent connection with Watanuki. Maybe he can see spirits or something like that (in CCS, those with strong magic power could see, or at least feel, spirits and ghosts).
It looks like Celes will be a very bloody and/or creepy arc for some reason...I'm so looking forward to it! XD

Actually, I'm not as concerned about Shaoran as I was when the spoilers came out. I seriously thought he would be getting his CLAMP-maimingTM in this arc. But now it looks more like a supernatural thing, and he having some experience in magic is a lot more reassuring than it'd be if it had been Watanuki in his place.

I recently joked in TF about white going well with crimson. Looks like CLAMP also thinks so. XD

Lol, yeah. I'm pretty sure it's coming soon (he got lucky before thanks to Sakura)...but sadly I think Fai is first on the list. I guess Acid Tokyo was not enough for him, poor thing...T_T Anyway, CLAMP angst is love.

White and crimson, lol. I guess it makes a good contrast in B&W manga!
