Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, chapter 148
How nostalgic! It really feels like Tsubasa is back to the Acid Tokyo routine from when I started to translate: little text, high shock factor.


Chapitre 148
Two choices

-01- (splash: Ashura-ou)

Shaoran: Do you intend on going to another world by yourself!?

Sakura: ... Let go of me.
Shaoran: Is it because I'm here!?

Sakura: It's not like that. (T/N: I think it's a mistake here that the bubble points to Shaoran. He doesn't end his sentences with "no" like that.)
Sakura: It's not your fault.

Sakura: But, if I don't go...
Sakura: I won't be in time.

Shaoran: !?

Fai: ... It can't be.
Sakura-chan.

??: Do you want to get out?
From this place.

??: It's not a dream. This is reality.

??: Let's grant
??: that wish.

??: However, it's only one person that can leave.

??: Choose.
You or the other person. (T/N: I don't know how relevant this is, but I should mention that "Fai's twin" is referred to as "mou hitori" by the speaker. "Mou hitori no <first-person-pronoun-of-choice>" is a common way to refer to one's twin... or clone.)

Fai: (T/N: Yay, it's the blank bubble of doom!)

??: You have chosen.

??: If a person who exceeds that mighty magic power should appear in front of your eyes, that person... (T/N: The sentence ends with "omae wa", which I'd normally leave as "you will", but I had to reorder the sentence in page 18 for shock effect, and that reflected here.)

Hmmm, I'm kinda "WTF" at the fact that it looks like the person we saw back in the Acid Tokyo flashback was the one we've been calling Fai's twin. The twin was trapped in the tower, and Fai in the ground... What the heck is going on? Why didn't the twin even seem to acknowledge Fai's presence back then? And there are speculations about one of them being a clone, too... I hope this gets cleared up in the upcoming Celes chapters.

I'm a bit confused about the curse now. I'm starting to think that Fai and his twin were already cursed to begin with, and all Fei Wang (if that was him) did was kill off one of the twins and send Ashura-ou their way.

Sakura's "downtime" was reduced to nothing or almost nothing now. Unfortunately for her, that was of little help evading a cursed vampire wizard. And Shaoran's sword = heartbreak.

Yeah, the thing with Fai actually being OUTSIDE is pretty confusing... I hope we'll get some better explaination before the release break.

yes, the weirdest part is that Fay was the one below, not the one who wanted to die... and for some reason Fay tried over and over to climb the tower? the exit was not there.... inthe end the flashback has been super confusing O_o; inthe end one of them or both, were clones? or were twins? .. so many questions...

From the state of his hands, Fai was damn determined to climb over there. Maybe he wanted to comfort his twin/clone? But, that's really dangerous too. If he managed to climb, and slipped, it'd be "instant death" for -him-. Was the twin/clone that important? And still, he seemed to ignore Fai... Weird.

I remember when I saw the spoilers Saturday (it's not the most understandable Japanese out there) and started to put the pieces together, then I was like "bloody hell". And when I actually -saw- the spread in [info]su_chan's journal... WOW.

O-M-G!!!!!! I KNEW Clamp was going to shock me!!! I don't read spoilers, so I can't believe what just happened!! O_O
So Sakura didn't get transported...(yet?)...which means her good luck is still hers to keep...maybe that will keep her...alive?? O_O OMG!
I thought the one in the Acid Tokyo flashback was Fai too!! But what I'm more confused about is the whole conversation with Fei Wang...For some reason, I don't think Fai chose himself...I think he might have wished for the other one to be 'free' and got him killed as a result ('Cause Fei is mean XD) ...But I could be wrong.
I'm feeling a connection with Holic's Maru & Moro and Fai & Twin...Kinda like the Good luck Sakura and Bad luck Himawari thing...

I only hope that Yuuko's, "The three worlds are... connected," back in 147 doesn't make it count as a landing in the other world...

The first thing I thought when I saw the blank bubble was "Rainbow Bridge". We'll be lucky if we learn what Fai actually said. Good thing he doesn't have a hand through his chest or anything of the sort.

[info]su_chan's theory makes sense... What if those two were "Fai" and "other Fai" in the same sense we had "Shaoran" and "other Shaoran"? It'd explain the twin-centered flashback in what was supposed to be Fai's memory...

Rainbow Bridge XD. I think Fai's choice, like every other the four of them have made, is extremely important to the story. So I think we will be told...later, of course.

Yes, it does make sense O_o That would also explain how Clone!Syaoran suddenly knew about the magic in Fai's eyes...But then where is the real Fai? Is it the one who died? Or not? And why does Fei Wang want Sakura dead?? Yuuko said he was after the memories of her body... OMG.

They'd better wait before moving to another world, 'cause this is totally confusing!!

i think is Sakura's fault for not tell anyone specially Kuro or Xiao, Xiao could believe her because he also have magical powers, or they go together!!!
is her fault, try to prevented she only makeit happens!!!

I hope Kuro daddy could punch his wife meanwhile Xiao take out Sakura for a tratment!!!
and Kuro take Fay to another dimension right away!!! is the only solution i could think...

They all did (or failed to do) something that lead to this. If even one of them had acted differently, this outcome would have been avoided. As far as the gang is concerned, this is a real tragedy.

It'd be so cruely sweet if Ashura-ou had known about the twins whether Fei Wang had appeared or not, wouldn't it?

The curse's origin... That could really be what Yuuko was talking about. In that case, I guess Fei Wang would know about it because he's an experienced magician. It was that second-to-last line in page 9 that hinted me the possibility of a pre-existing curse. I had suspected it from the spoilers, but because it was all unordered I couldn't make any conclusions. I wish Fai would tell us who was the "twin" sometime before volume 21 at least...

That -so- reminded me of Castlevania! Especially considering the wording used by the spoiler person from 2ch.net -- "fog-like" or something along those lines. Maybe that person made the vampire-fog connection too.

I wonder how Kurogane is going to react to this, considering that he could have chosen to let Fai die back in Acid Tokyo.

It wasn't so "fog-like" to me, more like a digital glitch, but if it is a vampire thing I think I get it.

I really really want to know how Kurogane's going to react too! With my luck all the next chapter is going to show is a disturbed ninji, but no real face-to-face, heart-to-heart reaction. But with my inablity to ever predict CLAMP (like, I never thought they'd actually show Kuro feeding Fai) we might get some new K/F pictures to flaunt with our icons.
I hope it's close to this drabble on the kuroxfai community where Kurogane doesn't blame Fai for what happened and comforts him with a hug from the back. But has CLAMP ever had their alleged shounen-ai couples hug? (Except in dying or fainting scenes, but that's not really embracing, but supporting body weight)

Seishirou did pretty much that (hug from the back), but it was in Tokyo Babylon, where a lot of his actions were just pretending.

Fuuma, before becoming a Chi no Ryuu, hugged Kamui a few times, although their canon status is disputed by some (not me, though).

I totally forgot about the Kamui/Fumma thing, of course they've hugged once. I'm not to far in TB, though, but I can see not-so-evil-because-I'm-fake Seishirou hugging not-so-damaged-yet Subaru from the back, but Subaru's embarrassed, so it'll be cute, but not heart-warming.

You know, since it seems like the 133 kid was the other one, and not Fay, that means it wasn't Fay who kept saying he wanted to die. Maybe Fay thought he was doing the other guy a favor or something?

You've got an interesting idea there! But seeing as Fai's story keeps getting angstier, I'd bet on Fai actually not giving much thought to it back when he made the choice, then blaming himself thinking that the twin hadn't -really- meant that about wanting to die, but in the end it really -was- the twin's wish.

Hmmm... "Dareka ni..." It could have been "dareka ni <Fai> o azuketai" (wanting to entrust Fai to someone) or something of the sort. I really hope that line gets properly explained now.

however, i'm so confused about the fai thing. from the very little that i understand, fai has a 'twin' in a tower and he chooses to free himself and the result is his 'twin' dying. and then ashura-ou picks him up (to where? why?).

so fai has to kill whoever has a greater magic power (wth does that mean? and for what reason?) so obviously sakura's 'magic power' got too strong.

Indeed, the revelation about Fai's past ended up being more puzzling than the original mystery. I think Ashura-ou took him in for pretty much the same reasons why Tomoyo-hime took Kurogane in.

Come to think of it, Ashura-ou in RG Veda brought a certain character back from the edge of death (or maybe back from death itself -- not sure if the said character understood the situation; ressurection goes against the rules of the CLAMP-verse after all). Maybe the Celes version of him also has a similar power that can be used to save Sakura. Especially since the gateway is right next to him.

OMG! What the *&^% is that?! So, that's why he killed ashura-ou? maybe? B/c he was stronger than Fai? Or is the whole curse implying that he'll kill people who come to mean a lot to him? Then that'd explain why he hasn't wanted to care about anyone the entire series, and why he's so remorseful about whatever he did to ashura-ou (maybe he loved king ashura for saving him from whatever that imprisonment was? He realizes that she's doing something really big for him--probably to do with Ashura-ou, b/c he knows the king is awakening and she says she has to hurry--(we know it's to stop whatever she saw in her vision, whether it's to do with ashura-ou or not, but he doesn't really know that), and it hits him, "omg, this chick really cares about me... she's kind of awesome... I don't want her to make this sacrifice for me--heart, heart!...*kill mode on*"

OH I'm so excited! I'm living in anticipation of the next chapter!

Not directly, but if you apply the "power attracts power" principle from CCS, then a lot of potential victims would be important to him. Putting that together with the fact that the "twin" died because of something Fai did, it might explain why he's so afraid of getting close to other people. I wonder how the heck Ashura-ou managed to keep Fai from being a walking pile of angst -- or did Fai originally learn his acting ways to stop Ashura-ou from worrying about him?

Oo wait, so if Fai's in the ground, and the "Other"'s in the tower,
Fai's trying to get to the "other" though the "other" continues to ignore him...
then someone comes to what looks like the tower and askes for a choice, (I can't help but think it's the "other" that it's asked to, since it looks like this takes place in the towers...) then after the choice is made one is dead, though now to me it looks like they fell from the tower into the doungon/ground thingy Fai was in... and that's how they died...

well, If he was really trying to get to the "other" but was ignored that might be why Fai never gets close to anyone. and if the "other" chose to die instead, then would that fit with why Fai has such a death wish as well for responsibility and stuff Oo??? I still can't help but think that the "other" was the one who made this choice for some reason. and it was F Wong whowhatz that made him choose.

GAH! Untill I know exactly who's who I'm going to die from confusion X.-

But the curse, could it be that when he meets anyone with more magical power than him he has to kill them or something? that could kinda be a kind way to explain why he put Ashura-oh in the water so he won't kill him... was it Fai or the "other" that was crying to go out? so confused! I'm going to have to re-lookit all these now.

Yes, the curse says to kill people with more magical power than him (not sure if a certain person or everyone who satisfies the requirement -- the text isn't that specific and there are people who think it's one specific person). That's most likely the reason why he ran away from Ashura-ou and tried to make it so that Ashura-ou doesn't come after him. It doesn't quite explain how they were able to live normally before that. Does Ashura-ou know about the curse? Or is it just that he doesn't care? (Being this -CLAMP- we're talking about, the latter is totally possible.)

About Fai and the other, it's really confusing. Especially when you put it all together with chapter 133. >
